Community outreach and education services
For many years, the Wellness Walk has been a family tradition. Today, the three-mile walk is well known throughout the community and is one of the more popular fundraising walks in the state.
More than $50,000 has been raised for the Tri-County Health Center, which provides a variety of health services including primary care, family medicine, community health, and special programs for adults and children.
“That money really helps the hospital provide free health services,” said Jill Rolfe, volunteer education coordinator. “We are able to help more people in the community receive the medical services they need.”
Volunteer committees and community members have donated time and funds in an effort to make the event successful and help the community.
On Jan. 26, Jane Sawyer, president of the Wellness Walk, announced that the tri-county health center would receive $350,000 to purchase new lab equipment, a facsimile machine, an X-ray machine and a wheelchair lift for the health center.
The funds were donated by the Highmark Foundation.
“This $350,000 gift will put the Tri-County Health Center on solid footing for the future,” Sawyer said. “This has been a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase the wonderful work that we are doing here in Lawrence County and we look forward to working with Highmark to continue to provide the best services for our community.”
Rolfe and the Wellness Walk team say they are excited to have this new equipment.
“It’s going to help our community. These are important services that we have needed for many, many years,” Rolfe said. “It is going to be very helpful in giving us more patient care and to be able to provide services in Lawrence County to make sure everyone in the community has a good chance of receiving the treatment they need.”
Rolfe said the Health Center plans to give the equipment to the healthcare professionals who work there.
